A delightful book by James Herriot that leaves you feeling pleasantly uplifted. Like an old friend, you can leave it for long stretches and pay it no attention, but you pick it up and start right where you left off. Then put it down feeling a bit happier.
In this the second book in a series, James Herriot outlines his adventures as a farm veterinarian in the late 1930's. He often expresses a love for nature and an awareness of the beauty around him. He sees animals as part of that nature, and expresses a gentle love and care for these creatures. I think I will never look at a cow or a sheep the same way.
The funny thing about this book is it's in a category of it's own, I believe. I found it in the "pet" section at the bookstore. A section I will probably never go to again until I read the next book in the series!
I'm so glad you loved this book. I remember very little of it, except the feeling it gave me. The best books change you somehow. I think I'll read it again soon.
